Physical education
Todays children are facing challenges dealing with obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Children are spending far too much time on computers, video games and watching television.
Following the Physical Education Curriculum, my main goal is to keep the children active with various activities. Effort plays a large part on evalution. Although, not every child likes exercise or sports, with a little effort most curriculum outcomes can be met with effort.
Society today is very fast paced with little time to eat properly. We have become dependant on fast, processed, fatty and sugar foods. This, along with lack of activity leads us to the challenges our children are facing today.
Some Benefits of Physical Activity
* builds strong bones and strengthens muscles
* helps achieve a healthy weight
* strengthens the heart
* improves self-esteem and increases relaxation
* enhances healthy growth, development and increases energy levels
* provides opportunities to meet new friends and CAN BE A LOT OF FUN
NUTRITION
* healthy snacks can include cut up fresh fruit, veggies, cheese, yogurt, popcorn and crackers with peanut butter
* dark green, orange or yellow fruits and vegetables are full of vitamins needed to grow and be active
* milk products provide calcium for strong bones
* limit sugar treats(candies, chocolate and pop) and fatty foods, consumed excessively may cause cavities, lead to weight gain and health problems
* sixty percent of the body is made up of water, drink water - stay healthy
WORKING TOGETHER WE CAN BE SURE YOUR CHILD WILL LEAD A HEALTHY AND HAPPY LIFE

Running Club
The grades 3-6 after school running club has successfully began with approximately fifty students paraticipating.
the club usually begins with a warm-up of circuits or running games, followed by stretching and finishing with some actual running/jogging activity.
the purpose of the running club is very similar to the expectations of the physical education program........to keep our children active and healthy.
the running club started with four sessions in the fall just to get your child started on a fitness routine. running club once a week is not going to get your child fit, they should be responsible for running/exercising at home at least 2-3 more times a week. the running club will be starting again sometime in the spring.
my end year main goal for the running club is to have your child jogging 4.2km. to participate in the "youth doctor's run" in halifax(may 22,2010). your child does not have to be involved in the halifax run to be a part of the running club. parents are responsible for transporting your child to the run. if interested all information willbe given in the spring or check online.
